OCEAN GROVE/BARWON HEADS
Sun, surf and sand
FOR more than 100 years,
Barwon Heads during sum-
mer, but for the rest of the
year it was a quiet hamlet.
But showbiz changed that.
In 1959, the closing scenes
of the film On the Beach ---
starring Gregory Peck, Ava
Gardner and Fred Astaire ---
were filmed in the town.
In the late 1990s, Barwon
Heads was the primary loca-
tion for ABC TV's popular

enjoyed from the sandy river
foreshore, while ocean surf
breaks abound along the 13th
Barwon Heads is 20 kilo-
metres south-east of Geelong.

accommodation and campsites including the 4 star "Laura's
Beach Houses", the original being featured in the ABC TV series
SeaChange. One of the new Beach Houses has been specifically
built to meet the needs of people of all physical abilities.
Another attraction is the fully restored 90 year old Boat House
that provides 4 star comfort in a heritage building.
The Beach House and the Boat House are right on the waters edge
and provide magnificent views across the bay to Port Philip Heads.
Other accommodation includes 4 star 3Br & 2Br A/C cabins
and the 1Br Cabins.
Over 200 sites are available and the park features full laundry
facilities, playgrounds, tennis courts, BBQ's etc.
